Understanding your Umrah visa's validity period is critical to planning your travel correctly. The visa has a finite window — and the consequences of overstaying, even by a single day, can affect your ability to return to Saudi Arabia in the future.
Standard Umrah Visa Validity
The Umrah visa is typically valid for 30 days from the date of issue (the date the visa is approved and sent to you). This is not 30 days from when you enter Saudi Arabia — it is 30 days from the date printed on the visa itself.
Example: If your visa is issued on 1 September, it is valid until 30 September. If you enter Saudi Arabia on 20 September, you must exit by 30 September — only 10 days after entry.
Always check the exact validity dates on your e-visa document. The dates are printed clearly on the visa.
Maximum Stay Duration
The Saudi visa system may specify both a validity period (how long the visa can be used to enter) and a stay duration (how long you can remain once you enter). For Umrah visas from India, the typical arrangement is:
- Validity: 30 days from issue
- Permitted stay: Duration of validity (exit before visa expiry)
In practical terms: enter as early as your plans allow (to maximise time in Makkah and Madinah), and exit before the expiry date printed on your visa.
Planning Your Travel Dates Around Visa Validity
To avoid any risk of overstaying:
- Apply for the visa close to your planned travel date — don't apply 6 weeks before travel and then have the visa expire before you depart
- Book your return flight at least 2–3 days before the visa expiry date, not on the last day
- If any disruption (flight cancellation, illness) might delay your exit, contact Nusuk Umrah support and the Saudi authorities immediately
What Happens If You Overstay?
Overstaying your Umrah visa — even by one day — is a violation of Saudi immigration law. Consequences include:
- Fine: Saudi Arabia imposes financial penalties per day of overstay
- Detention: In some cases, overstaying pilgrims are detained pending deportation
- Deportation: You may be removed from Saudi Arabia at your own expense
- Future ban: A record of overstaying can result in a ban from obtaining future Saudi visas, potentially permanently preventing future Umrah or Hajj
These are serious consequences. Plan your exit date carefully and do not take the risk of extending your stay beyond the visa validity.
Can You Re-Enter on the Same Visa?
Umrah visas from India are generally issued as single-entry visas. Once you exit Saudi Arabia, the visa is typically invalidated and you cannot re-enter on the same visa. If you want to perform Umrah again, you need to apply for a new visa.
Checking Your Visa Validity
Your e-visa contains all validity information. When you receive it:
- Note the issue date
- Note the expiry date
- Ensure your flight return is booked before the expiry date
- Keep a printed and digital copy of the visa throughout your trip
