Umrah visa processing typically takes 7–14 working days. But many Indian pilgrims find their applications stuck for 3–5 weeks — sometimes without any explanation. In most cases, the delay is caused by a fixable issue in the original application. Understanding what causes delays, and how to avoid them, can save your travel plans and prevent last-minute stress.
What Changed
Processing volumes at the Saudi e-Visa portal have increased significantly since the Umrah quota for India was raised in 2024. At the same time, the Ministry has tightened its document verification procedures — particularly for vaccination certificates, passport photos, and sponsor information. Applications that previously sailed through are now being returned for corrections more frequently.
The average time for a complete, correctly submitted application is still 7–14 days. Applications with document issues are being placed in a separate queue and may take 4–6 weeks in total once corrections are resubmitted.
Who Is Affected
Any Indian pilgrim submitting an Umrah visa application is potentially affected. Applications with minor errors — a mismatched name, an expired certificate, or an incorrect photo — are the most common cause of delay. First-time applicants who are unfamiliar with the exact document requirements are at higher risk.
Pilgrims applying close to their planned travel date (less than 21 days out) should be especially careful, as there is very little time to resolve a delay.
What To Do Next
If your application has already been submitted and you have been waiting more than 14 working days without a decision:
- Contact your licensed Umrah operator — they can query the application status through their portal access.
- Ask specifically whether the application has been placed on hold for document correction.
- If a correction is required, submit the corrected document as quickly as possible — the clock does not restart from submission, but the queue position may.
- Do not cancel and resubmit — this resets your position in the queue entirely.

Most Common Causes of Delay
1. Name mismatch between passport and application Your name in the visa application must match your passport exactly — including the order of given name, middle name, and surname. Even a single character difference triggers a hold.
2. Non-compliant passport photo Photos that do not meet the 6×4 cm / white background / 70–80% head coverage standard are the single most common cause of application holds since the 2025 photo requirement update.
3. Vaccination certificate issues The certificate must specify the ACWY formulation, be in English or Arabic, and have been issued within the past 3 years. Missing batch numbers or unsigned certificates are also flagged.
4. Expired passport Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended return date. A passport expiring within 6 months of travel will result in a hold or rejection.
5. Incomplete sponsor information If you are applying through a licensed Umrah operator, the operator's Saudi sponsor ID must be correctly entered. Errors in this field cause processing delays at the Saudi end.
6. Incomplete or missing mahram documentation For female applicants under 45 travelling without a mahram, the mahram relationship document — including a blood relation certificate or marriage certificate — must be attached. Missing attachments are a common cause of holds.

Check your name carefully. Compare every character of your name on the application form against your passport page. Use your passport, not your Aadhaar or PAN, as the source of truth.
Get your photo right. Use a photo studio that is familiar with the updated 2025 Saudi visa specifications. Better yet, use a service that verifies your photo before submission.
Verify your vaccination certificate. Confirm that it shows ACWY, was issued within 3 years, is in English, and has the facility's stamp and physician signature.
Apply early. Submit your application at least 21 working days before your travel date. This gives you time to address any corrections without affecting your trip.
