Passport validity is one of the most common reasons Indian pilgrims are denied boarding or turned away at Saudi immigration. The rules are strict and non-negotiable — Saudi border officials will not make exceptions even if your visa is valid and your documents are otherwise complete.
The 6-Month Rule Explained
Your Indian passport must have a minimum of 6 months of validity remaining from the date you depart India, not from the date you apply for the visa.
Example: If you plan to fly to Saudi Arabia on 15 September 2025, your passport must be valid until at least 15 March 2026. If it expires on 14 March 2026, it does not meet the requirement.
Blank Pages Requirement
In addition to validity duration, your passport must have at least 2 completely blank pages for immigration stamps. Saudi immigration officers use physical stamps on arrival and departure.
A page is considered "blank" only if it has no existing stamps, visas, or markings of any kind. Partial pages do not count.
When Should You Apply for Passport Renewal?
If your passport does not meet the 6-month validity requirement for your planned travel:
- Apply for passport renewal before applying for an Umrah visa
- Standard Passport Seva Kendra processing: 7–14 business days
- Tatkal (urgent) passport renewal: 1–3 business days (with higher government fees)
- Ensure your new passport arrives before you begin your visa application — the visa is linked to your passport number
Name Must Match Across All Documents
When your passport is renewed, the name on your new passport must match the name on your airline ticket, hotel booking, and vaccination certificate. If there are any discrepancies — even minor variations in spelling — your visa application may be delayed or rejected.
Common issues:
- Old passport: "Mohammed Ali" → New passport: "Mohammad Ali" (spelling change)
- Name on airline ticket booked under old passport not updated after renewal
Always rebook tickets if necessary after receiving a new passport, and ensure the vaccination certificate reflects your name as it appears in the new passport.
Using a New Passport After Visa Approval
If your visa was approved under an old passport and you have since renewed, bring both passports when you travel — the old one (even if expired) containing the visa and the new one as your travel document. Inform Saudi immigration and your airline in advance. Most airlines and immigration counters accommodate this, but confirming beforehand avoids confusion at the airport.
What If Your Passport Is Damaged?
If your passport has torn pages, water damage, unofficial markings, or a damaged chip (for e-passports), renew it regardless of the expiry date. Saudi immigration officers may refuse entry if the passport appears tampered with or is in poor physical condition.
Applying in Time
Once you have a valid passport with the required validity and blank pages, apply for your Umrah visa at nusukumrah.com/apply. Standard processing takes 3–5 business days; express takes 24–48 hours.
