Do I need a visa to perform Umrah from India?

Yes. All Indian citizens require a valid Umrah visa to enter Saudi Arabia for the purpose of performing Umrah. You cannot enter Makkah on a tourist visa or any other visa type. The Umrah visa is a separate, purpose-specific visa obtained through a licensed Umrah agency or directly through the Nusuk.sa platform.

What is the minimum passport validity for Umrah?

Your Indian passport must have at least 6 months of validity remaining from your planned date of departure from India. If your passport expires sooner, renew it before applying. Saudi immigration will refuse entry if this requirement is not met.

Is there an age restriction for Umrah?

There is no minimum or maximum age for performing Umrah. Children of any age can perform Umrah when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Elderly pilgrims may have additional medical document requirements. See our Senior Citizen and Children guides for specific requirements.

Can non-Indian Muslims residing in India apply for Umrah visa?

No. If you hold a non-Indian passport, you must apply for the Umrah visa through your home country's Saudi embassy or consulate, not through Indian channels. Your application must be based on your nationality, not your residence.

Is the Umrah visa the same as a Saudi tourist visa?

No. An Umrah visa and a Saudi tourist visa are different documents serving different purposes. The Umrah visa is specifically for the purpose of performing Umrah in Makkah and Madinah. A tourist visa does not permit entry into Makkah. You must use an Umrah visa for pilgrimage purposes.

How long is the Umrah visa valid for?

The Umrah visa is typically valid for 30 days from the date of issue. You must enter Saudi Arabia and complete your Umrah within this validity period. The exact validity is printed on your visa — always check this date before booking your travel.

Can I perform Umrah on a transit visa?

No. A transit visa does not permit you to leave the transit area of the airport. You cannot perform Umrah on a transit visa. You require a specific Umrah visa to exit the airport, travel to Makkah, and perform Umrah.

Is Umrah available year-round?

The Umrah visa is generally available throughout the year except during the Hajj season (Dhul Hijjah 1–13). During this period, the Saudi government suspends Umrah visas to manage the pilgrimage crowd. Applications submitted just before or after this period may experience delays as the season opens or closes.

Do I need a confirmed flight ticket before applying?

Yes. A confirmed return airline ticket is required as part of your Umrah visa application. The ticket must show departure from India and arrival in Saudi Arabia (Jeddah or Madinah). Your travel dates should be within the visa validity period.

Do I need a hotel booking before applying?

Yes. You need a confirmed hotel booking in Makkah as part of your application. If you plan to also visit Madinah, a booking there is also typically required. The booking must show your name, check-in and check-out dates, and the hotel address.

Can I apply for Umrah visa without a confirmed ticket?

No. A confirmed flight ticket is a mandatory document for the Umrah visa application. You cannot apply without it. We recommend booking a refundable or changeable ticket until your visa is confirmed, in case travel dates need to change.

How many Umrah visas can I get in a year?

There is no official limit on the number of times you can perform Umrah in a year. You can apply for multiple Umrah visas per year subject to Saudi quota availability and the visa being closed during Hajj season. Each application is treated independently.
